Rabbi Joseph Wolf, Rabbi at Havurah Shalom – a progressive Jewish community in Portland. Rabbi Wolf grew up in Boston, received his Bachelor’s degree at Brandeis University and continued his rabbinic studies at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. He received his Masters in Hebrew Literature and was ordained in 1970. In 2005, he received an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from the same institution (Theological Seminary in New York). Along with a passionate interest in the contemporary Jewish dialectic about place and power, in terms of identity politics in a global society, and a progressive role for Jews in terms of human rights, nothing occupies Rabbi Wolf any more than teaching Jewish texts and imaginative Jewish literature within the Havurah Shalom community. Throughout his 27 years in the rabbinate he has nurtured caring and sustaining connections among students, friends and the greater community.
